Telangana: Harish Rao flays Revanth Reddy govt over negligence of Gurukul schools

Former Minister T Harish Rao criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, claiming Telangana’s Gurukuls have declined due to neglect. He demanded payment of pending salaries for 2,500 contract staff and said Congress had undone the BRS government’s educational progress in 22 months

Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior BRS MLA T Harish Rao on Sunday accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of reducing Telangana’s residential education system to a hellhole through neglect and inaction. He suggested that instead of making grand announcements on Teachers’ Day, the Chief Minister should clear two months of pending salaries for nearly 2,500 contract and outsourcing staff working in the residential schools.

“Revanth Reddy’s promises to personally monitor Gurukuls and jail those serving adulterated food have turned into empty words,” he charged.

Harish Rao stated that under the Congress rule, students were losing lives to fever, snake and rat bites, dog attacks, and food poisoning, among others. He said such incidents were unheard of when Gurukuls were showcased as a model during former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s tenure.

He recalled that the BRS government had expanded the number of government residential schools from 294 to 1,024 institutions and raised enrolment from 1.9 lakh to 6.5 lakh, treating education as a capital investment.

“In just 22 months, the Congress has dragged Gurukuls to their lowest point,” he said, demanding that the government initiate immediate corrective measures, including payment of staff salaries.
