Telangana: Increase number of RTC buses to meet rush of female passengers, says AIDWA

The association celebrated its formation day in Khammam

Khammam: All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) district committee has demanded the State government to run a sufficient number of RTC buses according to the ratio of female passengers availing free bus travel.

The association’s formation day was celebrated here on Wednesday. The association’s State treasurer Macharla Bharathi unfurled the flag. Later, in a meeting chaired by Mukuru Ramana, the association’s State vice president Buggaveeti Sarala women were suffering and often facing insults from fellow passengers while finding a seat in the buses due to insufficient number of buses.

It was not right for the Congress government to avoid implementing the six guarantees after coming to power. The numbers of buses have to be increased under every bus depot and bus facility should be provided to all the villages, she noted

Sarala demanded that Rs 3 lakh crores should be allocated in the Central budget in line with the demand for employment guarantee scheme and 200 days of work be provided in rural areas. A daily wage of Rs 600 should be paid to the NREGS workers and the scheme has to be extended to urban areas.

Women empowerment would be possible only when 33 per cent reservation was implemented for women in the legislatures. Even now, 46 percent of women suffer from anemia. The budget for food security was being reduced year after year by the Centre metering out injustice to women, she complained.

She demanded that the sale of alcohol, pubs and sex literature, which were the causes of violence against women, should be stopped immediately. The Central and State governments have to allocate 30 per cent of the budget for the welfare of women and provide 14 types of essential commodities to every white ration card holder through ration shops in line with Kerala model.

The association leaders Bandi Padma, MD Mehrunisa Begum, P Nagasulochana, Baby, Bhagam Ajitha, N Kumari, Nandipati Pavani, P Pramila, P Sharanya Venkatalakshmi and others were present.
