Telangana: KTR urges CM to focus on paddy procurement

The BRS working president said farmers are left stranded without buyers for their paddy, even as unseasonal rains were damaging their produce

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to abandon his Delhi trips and corruption immediately, and start focusing on paddy procurement to address the challenges faced by the farmers of the State.

He said farmers are left stranded without buyers for their paddy, even as unseasonal rains were damaging their produce.

“Stop your thirst for land encroachments, positions and prostrations before your Delhi bosses. Instead, pay attention to the mounds of unsold paddy piled up like hills,” the BRS working president said, pointing out that while farmers wait anxiously to sell their harvest, millers and buyers remain scarce, leading to plummeting prices and wasted produce.

In a post on X, Rama Rao demanded that the Chief Minister look beyond political scheming and see the struggles of farmers who face financial ruin due to unsold crops and inadequate market support. He pointed out that farmers growing coarse varieties were deprived of a bonus, while those cultivating fine varieties were being neglected.

He suggested that rather than using delay tactics, Revanth Reddy must hold discussions with the millers and ensure smooth procurement. He urged the State government to ensure a fair price to farmers and prevent them from witnessing their paddy rot or sell for a cheaper price.
