Mittapalli Gopi, the reporter, who was accused of acting as a mediator for the CI Soma Satish Kumar, allegedly demanded Rs 4 lakh as bribe
Kothagudem: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths nabbed Manugur Inspector of Police Soma Satish Kumar and an electronic media (Big TV) reporter Mittapalli Gopi in a bribery case on Monday.
Gopi, who was accused of acting as a mediator for the CI, allegedly demanded Rs 4 lakh as bribe and was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 1 lakh as a part of the bribe from the complainant, ACB Khammam range DSP Y Ramesh said.
The bribe was demanded for not including names of the complainant and his nephew in crime number 150/2025 registered under Sections 318 (4) (Cheating and dishonest) and 318 (3) (Criminal trespass) along with Section 5 of Telangana State Gaming (Amendment) Act at the Manugur police station.
Satish Kumar and Gopi would be arrested and produced before the third additional sessions judge for SPE and ACB cases, Ramesh said. This was the eighth ACB case registered in erstwhile Khammam district in the last four months.
Satish Kumar was the second CI to be booked by the ACB in April in the district. Bhadrachalam town CI Barapati Ramesh was booked in a case of criminal misconduct along with his gunman Chele Rama Rao and a private person Dara Karthik on April 10.
