The woman was being shifted to the ICU after undergoing heart surgery, two ward boys also sustained injuries
Khammam: A woman died and two ward boys sustained injuries after falling in the lift pit from the third floor of Prasuna Orthopaedic and Super Specialty Hospital in Khammam city on Friday.
The deceased Sathu Sarojini (55) of Vanamari Krishnapuram of Mudigonda mandal in the district was admitted to the hospital three days ago for heart surgery. After the surgery, the ward boys took the woman on a stretcher into the lift to take her to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on the third floor.
As the patient and the two ward boys entered the lift, it moved even before the doors could close due to a technical fault. As a result, the stretcher got stuck in the lift doors. The lift moved to the third floor and then fell on the ground floor killing the woman on the spot due to severe bleeding.
A pall of gloom descended on Sarojini’s family members, who expected her to return home healthy after her heart surgery. Her relatives complained that the lift had not been working properly for a few days and alleged that the accident occurred due to the negligence of the hospital management.
