Telangana Police recovers 70,058 mobile phones in six months

They returned them to rightful owners using Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal

Hyderabad: The Telangana Police has traced and recovered 70,058 lost and stolen mobiles in six months and returned them to rightful owners using Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.

The Telangana Police adopted CEIR portal, developed by Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to curb the menace of mobile theft and counterfeit mobile devices, in all of its 780 police stations. Thanks to these efforts, the State has a recovery rate of 98.67 mobile devices per day.

The CEIR portal was officially launched nationwide in May 2023 and started on a pilot basis in Telangana State from April 2024.

In terms of recovery of lost and stolen phones, out of the 70,058 traced in Telangana State, a considerable contribution was made by Hyderabad Commissionerate, which traced 10,861 devices while Cyberabad Commissionerate managed to recover 9,259 mobiles, followed by Rachakonda Commissionerate with 7488 mobile devices.

To enhance user-friendliness and serve the citizens more efficiently, the Telangana Police, in coordination with DoT, have successfully integrated the CEIR portal with the TS Police Citizen Portal. As a result, citizens are encouraged to utilise the service on the TS Police Citizen Portal instead of visiting Mee Seva or police stations to report lost or missing mobile devices, Director General, CID Shikha Goel said.
