Telangana: Pregnant woman carried for 2 kilometres due to lack of road in Sangareddy village; delivers baby en route

In Telangana’s Munya Nayak Thanda, villagers carried a pregnant woman for 2 km to reach an ambulance due to no road access. She gave birth midway, highlighting the hamlet’s long-standing road woes and unfulfilled political promises

Sangareddy: Villagers of remote Munya Nayak Thanda in Nagulgidda mandal carried a pregnant woman on their shoulders for two kilometres to reach an ambulance, as the hamlet has no road connectivity.

When Koushi Bai developed labour pains on Sunday afternoon, villagers began carrying her towards an ambulance waiting two kilometres away. However, she delivered a healthy baby girl in the agricultural fields midway, assisted by ASHA workers and local women. The mother and newborn were then carried to the ambulance and shifted to the area hospital in Narayankhed for treatment.

The absence of a road meant ambulances could not reach the hamlet, a situation worsened by week-long rains that left the soil slushy, making the journey even more difficult. A family member, who filmed the incident, said political leaders have repeatedly promised road connectivity during election campaigns but failed to deliver.

Relatives accused the ruling party of neglecting the village, while women in the hamlet warned they would question leaders seeking votes in upcoming sarpanch and MPTC elections.
