Telangana: Ryots protest in Nalgonda decrying procurement norms, traffic hit on national highway
Say the conditions were forcing them to move to private millers to sell their paddy produce at a lower price
Nalgonda: Farmers staged a ‘rasta roko’ at Thipparthi mandal centre causing a traffic jam on the Nalgonda-Addanki national highway on Friday.
They staged a protest denouncing the conditions laid down for procurement of paddy at the purchase centre.
The farmers said the new norms were never heard of before and the conditions were forcing them to move to the private millers for selling their paddy produce at a lower price.
The farmers relented after the police intervened to clear the road traffic. The rabi harvest was gaining momentum across the district and the arrivals were expected to pick up.
Paddy purchases for the crop season taking off with the farmers’ protests would not augur well for the government, the protesters said.
