Telangana: Village announces Dasara lucky draw with goat, scotch whisky as prizes

The prizes are far from typical household appliances or vehicles. The first prize in the Boyapalli draw is a male sheep, while the second prize is a male goat. Third to sixth prize winners will receive bottles of liquor, including Johnnie Walker scotch whisky. The eighth, ninth, and tenth prize winners will each take home a country chicken.

Mancherial: A village here has come up with a unique way to celebrate the Dasara festival, with a lucky draw that offers goats, chicken and premium scotch whisky as prizes. All that one has to do is purchase a lottery coupon worth Rs.100.

Six persons from Boyapalli village in Thandur mandal came up with the interesting offer when they declared that they would conduct a draw of lots by selling coupons worth Rs.100 each on October 10.

The prizes are not the usual run of the mill home appliances or vehicles. The lucky first prize winner of the Boyapalli draw will get a male sheep while the second prize is a male goat. Winners of the third to sixth prizes will a bottle of liquor with varied prices including Johnnie Walker scotch whisky. The eighth, ninth and 10th prize winners will get a country chicken each.

“During the recently concluded Ganesh Chaturthi festival, we mulled over this idea to organize the draw of lots to give a unique prizes to winners. As many as 600 coupons have been sold out within 24 hours. The response to the event has been overwhelming,” Masadi Vijay Kumar, one of the six young farmers told ‘Telangana Today.’

Many from several parts of Telangana, Maharashtra buy coupons

Organisers said that people from not only different parts of Mancherial district, but also from Nizamabad, Rajanna-Sircilla, Nalgonda, Peddapalli, Jagtial, Warangal, Hyderabad and even the neighbouring Maharashtra have purchased the coupons within no time after the draw of lots was announced and with the news going viral on social media.

The organisers said they were planning to request the local police for security at the time of the draw of lots for smooth conduct of the event.
