Siddipet: A tenant farmer, reportedly in deep financial distress, died by suicide after consuming pesticide at Kondapur village in Mirudoddi mandal on Tuesday night.
Tigulla Raju (35), had taken three acres of land on lease in the neighbouring Doulapur village of Jagadevpur mandal. As he did not own any land, he was ineligible for subsidised bank loans and had borrowed around Rs 2 lakh from private moneylenders. With mounting pressure from lenders for repayment, Raju reportedly suffered a paralytic attack and remained bedridden.
Deteriorating health and growing financial troubles reportedly drove him to take the extreme step. His family found him unconscious in bed on Tuesday afternoon and rushed him to Gandhi Hospital, where he died hours later while undergoing treatment.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. Mirudoddi police have registered a case.
