Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police caught a three-member gang from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh in a ‘digital arrest’ fraud here on Thursday.
The arrested gang member – T Srinivasa Rao and L Jeevan Kumar, both physiotherapists and T Raghuveer, a businessman were earlier involved in 14 criminal cases across India including one in Telangana.
Police said the fraudsters contact their targets on social media and posing as representatives of government agencies such as Telecom Department, TRAI, CBI, CID, ED, Cyber Crime Department, threaten them with false cases and extort money from the victims.
In November 2024, the gang extorted a man from the city to the tune of Rs 3.5 lakh. Based on a complaint, the Cybercrime Police booked a case and arrested them.
