Hyderabad: A day after Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s statement on halting welfare schemes if the people of Jubilee Hills voted for the BRS triggered a political uproar, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud sought to play down the remarks, assuring that all Congress promises would be fulfilled.
Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, Goud said the Congress government would remain in power for three more years and continue implementing every welfare initiative without disruption. “People need not harbour any fears about ongoing schemes,” he said.
He accused the BRS of attempting to mislead and blackmail the public over welfare programmes, particularly the free bus travel for women. “It is the BRS that is spreading lies. They are trying to create panic among people for political mileage,” he alleged.
Responding to criticism over the induction of former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin into the Cabinet, Goud dismissed allegations of appeasement politics, stating that Azhar’s appointment came under the BC quota. “Azhar belongs to the BC-E category. The Congress remains committed to the welfare of BCs and minorities,” he said.
