Uncleared garbage piles up in Hyderabad’s Old City areas after heavy rains, residents fear health crisis

Garbage clearance has been disrupted in Hyderabad’s Old City after incessant rains, with mounds of waste seen across several localities. Residents from Bandlaguda to Jalpally municipality allege inaction by GHMC and local leaders, warning of illness and worsening unhygienic conditions.

Hyderabad: The incessant rains for the last couple of days have affected the garbage clearance activity in the old city. Mounds of garbage are found strewn around street corners leading to unhygienic conditions and fears of breakdown of pandemic.

For instance, a huge mound of garbage is seen near Holy Fatima School posing problems to the local residents, shop owners and the students of the school. A temple is located nearby and the unhealthy conditions are drawing criticism from the people.

“The garbage is not cleared regularly by the GHMC at this spot. Due to it, a lot of stench emanates leading to hardships,” complained Shaik Sajid, a local shopkeeper.

In Millatnagar Bandlaguda, 2 km away from Chandrayangutta, the conditions are no better with garbage found dumped at street corners. “Children are falling ill due to the presence of garbage on the streets. Despite informing the local leaders, no action is being initiated on their part,” alleged Farzana, a local resident.

Complaints of garbage littered on the streets are heard from Ghousenagar, Noorinagar and Jahangirabad as well. The situation is no different in the Tallabkatta Nashemanagar, near Charminar and the areas of Shaheennagar, Quba colony, Sadathnagar, Bismillah colony, Wadi e Mustafa and Wadi e Salaheen in Jalpally municipality.
