Protesters demanded that the State government extend job security, besides providing basic, DA and HRA with an annual increment of three per cent
Hyderabad: Demanding regularisation of contract teaching staff services in 12 universities, contract assistant professors staged a protest at the Osmania University administrative building here on Sunday, despite it being a holiday.
The universities’ contract teaching staff state coordination committee had called for an indefinite strike, which entered its second day on Sunday.
As the permission to erect a tent was allegedly denied by the varsity authorities, the teachers squatted on the ground at the university administrative building and continued their protest.
Protesters demanded that the State government extend job security, besides providing basic, DA and HRA with an annual increment of three per cent. They complained that despite submitting representations on their issues to government officials for the past 15 months, nothing had been achieved.
Opposing the recent government’s GO MS 21, enabling universities to recruit regular assistant professors, the protesters demanded immediate withdrawal of the order.
The teachers wanted the government to initiate steps to resolve their long-standing demands. They warned that the protest would be intensified if the government did not regularise their services.
Contract assistant professors – Dr. Dharma Teja, Dr. Seemarla Vijender Reddy, Dr. Parasuram, Dr. Velpula Kumar, Dr. Upender and others participated in the protest.
