University of Hyderabad professor elected as Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences

Prof Rajagopal Subramanyam receives award in recognition of substantial contributions to the field of photosynthesis, especially regarding structure and function of chloroplasts

Hyderabad: Prof Rajagopal Subramanyam, Department of Plant Sciences, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences-2025.

He received the award in recognition of his substantial contributions to the field of photosynthesis, especially regarding the structure and function of chloroplasts.

Prof Rajgopal’s research focused on the dynamic adaptation of photosynthetic apparatus in algae and higher plants during abiotic stress.

He discovered that under fluctuating light, the light-harvesting complex (LHC)B2 undergoes phosphorylation, triggering the dissociation of trimeric LHCII from photosystem (PS)II and migration to PSI.
