Uttam Kumar Reddy claims credit for progress in KWDT-II proceedings

Congress government intensified efforts to expedite water allocations through Brijesh Tribunal, says Irrigation Minister

Hyderabad: Blaming the BRS regime for injustice meted out to Telangana in river water sharing, Minister for Irrigation N Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that ever since the Congress government came to power in the State, efforts were put in with more intensity to expedite water allocations through the Brijesh Tribunal by mounting pressure on the Union government.

He pointed out that farmers in Mahbubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, and Khammam districts had borne the brunt of the State’s deprival of the due water entitlement. During the BRS regime, the Andhra Pradesh government indiscriminately transferred Krishna waters, increasing the capacity of Pothireddypadu by an additional 44,000 cusecs, he alleged. Without the approval of the Krishna board and Apex Council, the Andhra Pradesh government had issued administrative approvals for the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project and Pothireddypadu expansion works to lift three tmc of water daily from the Srisailam reservoir, he said.
