Warangal’s SR University celebrates 23rd Annual Sports Day at Ananthasagar campus
Sports Officer of IIT-Hyderabad Dr Baba Aditya Verma emphasises importance of sports in students’ lives, says sports helps reduce stress and enhance physical well-being
Warangal: SR University’s 23rd Annual Sports Day held at the university campus at Ananthasagar was marked with enthusiasm, bringing together students, faculty and sports enthusiasts.
Sports Officer of IIT-Hyderabad Dr Baba Aditya Verma attended the event held on Thursday.
Addressing the students, he emphasised the importance of sports in students’ lives saying that sports helps in reducing stress and enhancing physical well-being.
He encouraged students to actively engage in sports, stating that even a 30-minute walk every day can significantly improve one’s health. He congratulated the students for their remarkable performance in the South Zone Games.
University Vice-Chancellor Prof Deepak Garg urged students to incorporate yoga and physical fitness into their daily routine as they play a crucial role in overall development.
University Registrar Dr Archana Reddy said participation in sports was an art. “In sports there are be both wins and losses, which should be embraced as part of the learning experience,” she said.
Dean (Student Welfare) Dr AVV Sudhakar and physical director Dr Pulluri Srinivas Goud also spoke.
The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department emerged as the overall champions, securing the rolling trophy which was presented by Prof Indrajit Gupta.
Prizes were presented to winners of various sports events. Associate physical director Dr K Ravinder, and coaches RK Satish, K Sammayya, D Ravi, B Janaki Ramudu, K Amulya, P Madhavi and P Shankar were present.
