Kothagudem: Security personnel had a lucky escape when Maoists triggered a massive IED blast on Bijapur-Bhopalpatnam NH 63 in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday.
The explosion that took place between Gorla nala and Dudheda under Madded police station limits left a five feet crater on the national highway.
As many as 15 security personnel were said to have been returning to their base camp in a pick up truck after a search operation in the area; the Maoists targetted that vehicle and narrowly missed their target.
After the IED explosion, Maoists have opened fire on security personnel. But there were no casualties. Two jawans who suffered minor injuries as they were hit by stones were shifted to district hospital for treatment.
