‘We stand ready to…’: What Chinese foreign minister said on resolving India-China border dispute
China stands ready to work with India for “steady and sound” growth of relations between the two countries, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said as he stressed that both nations are committed to upholding stability in border areas.
Yi’s statement comes amid simmering tension between the two countries over the recent clash in Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh.
“China and India have maintained communication through diplomatic and military-to-military channels, and both countries committed to upholding stability in border areas,” the Chinese Foreign Minister said at a media briefing on Sunday.
“We stand ready to work with India in the direction toward steady and sound growth of China-India relations,” he added, ANI reported.
A violent face-off broke out between Indian and Chinese troops in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh on December 9, which led to injuries to a few personnel on both sides.
Days after the clash, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in Parliament that the Chinese side tried to “unilaterally” change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control in the Yangtse area of Tawang but the Indian Army compelled them to retreat in a firm and resolute manner.
Singh said that none of the Indian soldiers was killed or sustained any serious injury in the violent face-off. He further said that the Chinese side was asked to refrain from such actions and maintain peace and tranquility along the border.
Earlier this week, India and China held the 17th round of military-level talks and agreed to maintain the security and stability on the ground in the Western Sector.
The two sides also agreed to stay in close contact, and maintain dialogue through military and diplomatic channels and work out a mutually acceptable resolution of the remaining issues at the earliest, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
