WWDC 2024 to kick off on June 10: From AI to iOS 18, what to expect and how to watch livestream

WWDC 2024 is all set to kick off on June 10 where Apple will unveil its plans for this year. Following the tradition, during WWDC 2024, the tech giant will introduce the upcoming upgrades. These upgrades are most likely to be the next flagship, processor, iOS and many more. But here is the catch. This year, Apple is expected to use the event as a platform to narrate its intention with AI.

In fact, it is speculated that WWDC 2024 will majorly focus on AI and its integration with devices. After the rivals, Microsoft and Google, have already put forth their plans, Apple will make an entry to the race via this event. The unveiling of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS, and watchOS will be amongst the highlights of WWDC 2024. Let’s see what more to expect from WWDC 2024.

WWDC 2024: What to expect

As WWDC 2024 is around the corner, Apple has revealed the keynote session (which we will disclose shortly). Giving out just a little piece of information, Apple is building a stage for bigger revelations. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s AI approach will focus on practical features for devices rather than flashy demonstrations.

iOS 18

The rumour has it that Apple will put forth one of the biggest software developments — iOS 18. At WWDC 2024, Apple will release new software updates for its devices.

iOS 18 is surely the most awaited update. It is speculated that iOS 18 will introduce significant enhancements including home screen customisation, new siri version, generative AI features and many more. To provide more power to iOS 18, Apple is also in talks with Open AI, Google and Anthropic to integrate their chatbots into its operating system. OpenAI’s ChatGPT is expected to be the first to integrate deeply with Apple’s ecosystem, while discussions with Google regarding Gemini are ongoing.

But when will iOS 18 come into reality? According to the reports, the first public beta for this new OS, iOS 18, should be released a month after the keynote, which takes the timeline to around mid-end of July. Traditionally, the tech giant releases a stable version of the update to all its existing devices a few days after the launch of its latest iPhone flagship in September. The users can expect the same for iOS 18 as well.

AI features

To enhance the user experience, Apple is looking forward to making tasks easier by integrating AI with them. Along with iOS 18, the tech giant might also announce several other features. These features may include Smart Recap, Voice Memo Transcription, AI-generated emojis.

The tech giant intends to bring the new utilities with a unique focus point, which is to incorporate tools that users can use in their daily routines and interactions. Let’s look at the details here.

Smart Recap Feature: The new feature will summarise missed texts, notifications and media, providing users with a concise overview of what they have missed. This feature mimics Microsoft’s Recall feature, which tracks recent activities on a device.

Voice Memo Transcriptions: The Voice Memo app might get AI-powered transcriptions, making it easier to record content.

AI-powered emoji: It is speculated that iOS 18 will bring generative AI to emojis. As per the report, Apple is on the way to developing software that can manufacture custom emojis, based on what users are texting. This means that whatever you text, you will have another set of AI-powered emojis to express the same emotion, beyond the catalogue of options that Apple currently offers.

Improved Siri: Apple is expected to unveil a more natural-sounding Siri, enhanced by large language models, and better Siri functionality on Apple Watch. As per the report, the updated Siri will be able to control and navigate an iPad or iPhone better and with more precision. For instance, with the help of AI, Siri will be able to open individual documents, move a note to another folder, send or delete an email, open a particular publication in Apple News, email a web link, or even ask the device for a summary of an article.

How to watch WWDC 2024 livestream?
