You don’t look Australian: Usman Khawaja makes shocking reveal, says he got stopped despite being in Aussie jersey
Usman Khawaja is one of the most senior cricketers of the present national team. The left-handed batsman has made numerous comebacks in the Australian team over the course of his career and is part of the present Test team for the ongoing series against South Africa.
Khawaja is of Asian descent as he was born in Pakistan. His family moved to Australia while Usman was young and he has played all his cricket for the Kangaroos. Just before the start of the ongoing Boxing Day Test match, Khawaja made a shocking reveal and said that he got stopped by security three times at a hotel despite being in the Australian jersey.
The left-handed batsman reacted to a journalist’s tweet, who shared his experience on Twitter. Khawaja saw the tweet and made the shocking reveal.
“You get use to it. I got stopped 3 times last year at our hotel, while in Australian Kit and asked if I was with the Australian Cricket team… #youdontlookaustralian #orsotheysay,” he wrote.
Khawaja made his Australia debut in the Ashes series in January 2011. His ODI debut came against Sri Lanka in 2013 while he played his maiden T20I against India in January 2016. He was part of the T20 World Cup squad that year.
The 36-year-old has 3966 runs in 54 Test matches at an average of 46.11. He has 12 centuries in the longest format. He has donned 40 ODI caps and has hit 1554 runs at an average of 42.00. In T20Is, he has 241 runs. He hasn’t played any white-ball game since 2019.
Khawaja has batted well in the ongoing season and will hope to retain his spot for the Ashes 2023, scheduled to take place in England in June-July. He scored 13 runs in the first Test against South Africa and was dismissed for 1 in the first innings of the 2nd Test match.
