Hyderabad: A 25-year-old youth allegedly attacked his sleeping father with a hammer and a stone roller at their house in CPI Colony in Balajinagar on Thursday.
The suspect, Pavan, lived in the same house as his father, M Nagaraju (53), a watchman, his grandmother Eshwaramma and his paternal uncle Sundar, with family members occupying separate rooms.
According to the police, Pavan had reportedly become addicted to cannabis and was leading an unruly life. On Thursday, Sundar noticed Pavan sitting alone and laughing and behaving strangely. He advised him to go to sleep and returned to his room. A short while later, Eshwaramma alerted Sundar that Pavan was attacking Nagaraju.
Sundar rushed to the spot and found Pavan covering his father’s face with a cloth and repeatedly attacking him with a hammer and roller, threatening to kill him. Pavan fled after noticing Sundar.
Nagaraju was immediately shifted to the hospital. His condition is said to be critical.
The Jawaharnagar police are investigating the case. Pavan has been arrested.
