YSV Datta to enter fray as an independent in Kadur

BENGALURU: Under pressure from his supporters, former legislator Y.S.V. Datta, on Sunday, announced that he would contest the forthcoming election as an independent.
He announced his decision after a public meeting with his supporters in Kadur town. It may be recalled here that Datta quit Janata Dal Secular (Kadur) to join the Congress party. He was an aspirant from the Congress party in the ensuing Assembly polls, however, in the second list of candidates released by the Congress, the party has fielded K.S. Anand as its nominee.
A miffed Datta held a meeting with his supporters and decided to contest as an independent nominee. Earlier, he held a procession, which culminated at the Venkateshwara Kalyana Mantapa in Kadur town.
Y.S.V. Datta had represented Kadur Assembly seat in 2013 election after he defeated his nearest rival Belli Prakash who was then a nominee of Karnataka Janata Party (KPJ). In 2013, Datta polled 68, 733 votes and Belli Prakash 26,300 votes.
In the 2018 election, Belli Prakash of BJP trounced Y.S.V. Datta by a margin of about 16,000 votes. Prakash got 62, 232 votes and Datta secured 46, 680 votes.
