Morbi disaster: PM Narendra Modi meets kin of victims, promises ‘extensive’ probe
PM Narendra Modi arrived in Morbi on Tuesday, first visiting the accident site and then spent close to two hours with families that lost their loved ones in the bridge collapse along with those still recuperating in hospital.
Promising justice to those affected, Modi said “the need of the hour is a detailed and extensive inquiry” to cover all aspects of how the renovated British-era bridge collapsed within five days of reopening. Presiding over a review meeting with officials and ministers, Modi said the authorities must stay in touch with the affected families and ensure they receive all possible help. He also asked the administration to implement “key learnings” from the disaster so that something similar doesn’t recur.
