Haryana Jails Minister Ranjit Singh Chautalahad commented on the Dera chief’s new parole request, saying that an application for 40-day parole had been submitted and sent to the Rohtak divisional commissioner.
During his parole, the Dera leader is also likely to go to an event on January 25 to celebrate the birthday of Shah Satnam Singh, who was the Dera leader before him.
The 55-year-old head of Sirsa Dera held many online “satsangs” from the Barnawa ashram in UP during his previous parole period in October and November.
He was also granted three weeks of leave beginning February 7, 2022, barely two weeks before the Punjab Assembly elections.
When Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was given a 40-day parole last year, the Sikhs’ highest religious body, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), objected.
President of the SGPC, Harjinder Singh Dhami, stated that although special treatment was given to Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Sikh convicts who had been in jail for an average of 30 years were not released despite having served their full terms.
In 2021, the leader of the Dera and four others were found guilty of plotting the murder of the Dera’s manager, Ranjit Singh. The Dera leader and three others were found guilty of killing a journalist more than 16 years ago.
