New ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Big Bang Theory’ series to come
At the end of May Warner Bros. Discovery will launch, the new streaming service, Max in the USA. As part of the announcement the entertainment company also announced that, amongst other things, both another ‘Game of Thrones’ and a new ‘The Big Bang Theory’ spin-off are planned.
The stories of Dunk and Egg
After the success of ‘Game of Thrones’, and the prequel spin-off ‘House of the Dragon’, series fans will once again be heading to Westeros. ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’ is to be the second prequel to George R. R. Martin’s (74) popular fantasy saga ‘The Song of Ice and Fire’ and is based on the author’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ stories. Martin will write the scripts alongside Ira Parker, and also be one of the executive producers, according to a press release.
Details about the cast or the release date have not yet been announced, but there is already an official teaser, according to which ‘two unlikely heroes’ wander through Westeros a century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’: Ser Duncan and his squire Egg. Accordingly, “great destinies, powerful enemies and dangerous exploits” await the friends.
Chuck Lorre provides for a ‘Big Bang’
Chuck Lorre (70), known for series like ‘Two and a Half Men’, is meanwhile again providing a comedic bang. He is developing another spin-off to his popular sitcom ‘The Big Bang Theory’ after ‘Young Sheldon’ – Lorre will take on the role of executive producer. However, Warner Bros. Discovery is still keeping quiet on all the other details surrounding the new series.
It is not known whether Jim Parsons (50, Sheldon), Johnny Galecki (47, Leonard) or Kaley Cuoco (37, Penny) could return. Moreover, it is likely to be some time before the whole thing appears, as Lorre is currently working on the comedy ‘How to Be a Bookie’ with Nick Bakay (63) for ‘Max’.
In addition, amongst other things, a ‘Harry Potter’ series has also been announced, for the new streaming service, on which author J. K. Rowling (57) is collaborating and which is already set to run for ten years. Her books are to be adapted down to the last detail. Daniel Radcliffe (33), Emma Watson (32) and Rupert Grint (34) will no longer be seen as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley – a new cast will take over.
Max launches in the U.S. on May 23rd. In addition, to content from HBO Max, the service also offers Discovery+ which will remain standalone.
