‘Cancer riddled’ Putin receiving chemo, leaked documents show

Vladimir Putin is receiving treatment for cancer with his top military chiefs looking to “throw” Russia’s war in Ukraine, a rumour contained in a leaked US intelligence document has claimed. A trove of top secret files were leaked last week, including sensitive disclosures on Ukraine, South Korea, Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

As well as detailed information about troop movements in Ukraine and the death toll on both sides, the trove contains daily intelligence briefings from a number of sources from around the world.

One such briefing includes a rumour claiming – a top Russian general is conspiring to “throw”, meaning deliberately lose, the war in Ukraine while Putin is undergoing chemotherapy.

The claim says Russian National Security Council Secretary, Nikolay Patrushev, and Russian Chief of the General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, are behind the plot.

Images of the section of the documents where the claim was reported have been shared online along with many more of the 53-pages included in the leak.

The Prime Minister could call a general election for autumn 2024, but the latest odds suggest the Tories would lose and put Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour in Number 10.

One document says the plot is “presumably in an attempt to sabotage Russian President Vladimir Putin”.

The title of the briefing says: “Ukraine Learns of Alleged Russian Plot to ‘Throw’ So-Called Special Military Operation By 5 March”.

Sections of the update are redacted with a number of coded letters runing along the top of the document signifying its security classification.

These are: “TS//SI//REL TO USA, FVEY/FISA”. This appears to show the document is top secret and was collected through communications monitoring.

The acronyms also reveal the update can only be released to people with the required security clearance in the USA or the so-called Five Eyes alliance, which is made up of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Britain and the United States.
