AC helmets introduced for Anantapur range traffic police to beat the heat

ANANTAPUR: For the first time in AP, the Anantapur range police introduced AC helmets for the traffic police to enable them work under the scorching sun.

The AC helmet could reduce at least 10 degrees of temperature, giving substantial relief to the traffic police on the roads controlling traffic even when mercury touched 45 degrees.

A Hyderabad-based company manufactured the AC helmets for industrial purposes and similar helmets will be used by the traffic police now.

Range DIG Ammi Reddy and SP Sreenivasa Rao conducted a demo on Wednesday by wearing the AC helmets while standing on the main road along with the traffic police constables.

Notably, the Rachakonda Commissionerate of Hyderabad city police had introduced AC helmets for the traffic police there a few days ago. DIG Ammi Reddy after studying the benefits of such helmets introduced them for the Rayalaseema region.

The Hyderabad-based Jersey Logistics manufactured air-conditioned helmets for workers in the high voltage industrial sector.

Even if the temperature records 42 degrees in the gauges of the metrology department, it could touch more than 45 on BT road, causing serious health issues like sun strokes.

DIG Reddy said, “We noticed at least 10 degrees of temperature was down by wearing the AC helmet as against normal temperature.”  About 100 helmets were ordered for the traffic police in Anantapur, Satya Sai, Tirupati and Chittoor districts.  Each AC helmet costs about Rs 7500.

The company is also making changes by adding an inbuilt camera on the helmet so that cops can record instances of traffic rule violations.
