SC stays TS High Court order on Gangi Reddy

HYDERABAD: Supreme Court has on Friday stayed Telangana High Court’s direction to Central Bureau of Investigation that Erra Gangi Reddy, the prime accused in Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy murder case, be granted bail on July 1.
The apex court’s stay order came after N. Sunitha, daughter of the slain Vivekananda Reddy, approached it appealing against the TS High Court’s order.
While the Supreme Court stipulated that the CBI complete the investigation into the Vivekananda Reddy murder case by June 30, 2023, Gangi Reddy had got bail from a local court of Kadapa.
Following this, Sunitha moved a petition in the Telangana High Court against Gangi Reddy’s bail, saying his release is impacting witnesses in the Vivekananda murder case.
The Telangana High Court cancelled the bail of Gangi Reddy, following which he surrendered before the court in the first week of May. However, on a petition by Gangi Reddy, the TS High Court directed CBI to grant him bail on July 1, as the top investigation agency is expected to complete the investigation by June 30 as per the Supreme Court order.
Sunitha approached the Supreme Court again against this order of the TS High Court. The apex court has stayed the High Court’s order.
Erra Gangi Reddy will thus remain in judicial custody after CBI completes its investigation by June 30, 2023, as stipulated by the Supreme Court.
