Hyderabad: The Congress government in Telangana is facing severe criticism from the BRS over the deteriorating conditions in Gurukul residential schools. With bills pending since last February, contractors have halted the supply of essential items such as eggs, meat and school uniforms.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao questioned the government’s priorities, particularly after it reportedly spent nearly Rs.200 crore on the Miss World pageant.
“Have some shame, Rahul Gandhi. Your government has no money to feed children or provide uniforms, but is ready to spend Rs.200 crore on the Miss World pageant,” he posted on social media.
Former IPS officer and BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar, who earlier headed the government welfare residential educational institutions, cited distress calls from contractors who had mortgaged gold and properties to continue food supply.
“This never happened during former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s rule, where contracts were finalised before schools reopened and payments were made promptly,” he said.
Charging the Congress regime with a complete administrative collapse, Praveen Kumar said Ministers had become mere ceremonial statues.
“Officials are running the show unchecked. Two children died in the last two days in residential schools. Does the Minister even know?” he asked.
