Apple CEO Tim Cook Makes BIG Statement on Mass Layoffs

At a time when tech giants Amazon, Twitter, and Meta have laid off thousands of employees, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that layoffs at his company will be made only as a ‘last resort.’“I view that as a last resort and, so, mass layoffs is not something that we’re talking about at this moment”, Tim Cook said in an interview with CNBC. The CEO also said that they are being extremely careful about hiring.

“We’re continuing to be extremely prudent on hiring. We’re continuing to hire, just at a lower clip level than we were before. And we’re doing all the right things of challenging the things that we spend, and we’re just finding a few more ways to save on it”, CNBC quoted Cook as saying.

On being asked about the main reason why Apple is currently in a better position than its rivals, Cook asserted that it might be the slowdown in hiring during the Covid pandemic.

Earlier in April, it was reported that Apple Inc is eliminating a small number of roles in some of its corporate teams, The speculated Apple layoffs were expected to affect a small number of people from ‘development and preservation teams’.

The report also said that employees in the said departments are responsible for the upkeep of retail stores. Bloomberg said that the iPhone maker is positioning the move as an effort to streamline, rather than job cuts or layoffs. The company had reportedly told employees that they would be able to re-apply for roles that are similar to their prior roles.
