BJP’s Kirit Somaiya accuses Uddhav Thackeray of suppressing scandal to save former Mayor

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has once again hit out at former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and said that the Sena leader suppressed the cheating and forgery matter related to Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme, in which former Mayor Kishori Pednekar is allegedly involved.

The BJP leader said that the chief minister was aware of the matter and, in order to save the former mayor, he had suppressed the matter in the ministry.

“I have the documents with me and I had raised the issue during his tenure itself. I brought out this scandal in 2021 itself and the matter reached the Bombay High Court as well after which the court sent a notice to the Thackeray government. And it was then that I got the documents from SRA and the Election Commission and the BMC related to the matter,” he said,

On Friday, the BJP leader once again raised a complaint against former Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, alleging that she illegally acquired flats under the SRA scheme.

In a written complaint, filed at the Nirmal Nagar Police Station in Bandra, he said that an FIR needs to be registered in the matter.

The BJP leader has levelled charges of cheating the poor people by grabbing their property and forgery of documents against the former mayor.

“I sat with the police for half an hour and the matter was discussed. I have shown them the documents and they have promised that they will look into the matter and investigate. Forgery has been committed by Kishori Pednekar and she has even given her SRA address in the affidavit to the Election Commission,” said Somaiya.

Earlier, Sena leader Arvind Sawant had said that allegations levelled against the former mayor were politically motivated and there will be no surprise if the Thackeray family’s name is brought up by the BJP.

The BJP leader, reacting to the statement, said that it was unfortunate if the Sena leader reacted in this manner. “If someone blames us after looting poor people of their houses and creating a scandal, then it is very unfortunate,” said Somaiya.
