Top Gun: Maverick is now the biggest ‘part two’ sequel of all time
Top: Gun Maverick has broken another record, months after soaring to the top of the box office. After several delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Top Gun sequel opened in May to rave reviews across the board from audiences and critics alike. As the weeks passed by, the movie continued to be one of the strongest contenders at the box office and set new records for Labor Day and Memorial Day weekend. Its 16th weekend alone brought in another $3.17 million. Now, Top: Gun Maverick has surpassed other successful sequels such as Frozen II to become the highest-grossing second film of all time. To date, the movie has made $1.45 billion at the global box office and a staggering $705.65 million at the US box office, according to Forbes. Emmys 2022: Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae makes history with Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series win
Lee Jung-jae on Tuesday made history by becoming the first Asian actor ever to receive an Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama for his performance in ‘Squid Game’. He was only the fourth Asian actor ever to win in any of the Emmy performance categories, and the first to win the drama award for a non-English speaking role, Variety reported. During his acceptance speech, Lee said, “Thank you to the Television Academy, thank you to Netflix and thank you to the director for making realistic problems we all face come to life so creatively on the screen with a great script. Thank you, ‘Squid Game’ team. Thank you to everyone watching in Korea.” ‘Squid Game’ has received 14 total Emmy nominations this year, and took home four Emmy awards at this year’s Creative Arts Emmy’s earlier this month. Source

Washington: Singer-Songwriter Taylor Swift recently revealed her desire to direct feature films. ‘Lion King’ prequel titled ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’
Los Angeles: Filmmaker Barry Jenkins appeared on stage at the global Disney fan event D23 Expo to officially announce ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’, a new prequel to the 2019 ‘Lion King’ film. Originally announced in 2020 as a sequel to the 2019 film, ‘Mufasa’ tells the origin story of the iconic Disney father, exploring his childhood growing up with his brother Scar. The film will feature the voice of Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as younger versions of the characters, filling in for James Earl Jones as Mufasa in both the 1994 original and the 2019 CGI remake, and Jeremy Irons and Chiwetel Ejiofor as the villainous Scar.
