Enough doses of ‘deadly’ drug to kill all Americans seized by law enforcement officers

US law enforcement seized more than enough fentanyl to kill all Americans in 2022, the country’s Drug Enforcement Administration has said. On Tuesday, the DEA said it had captured 50.6 million fake prescription pills laced with fentanyl and 10,000 pounds of fentanyl powder during the year – calling it the equivalent of “more than 379 million potentially deadly doses”. The DEA said fentanyl, which caused only a fraction of overdose deaths a decade ago, is now the “deadliest drug threat facing this country“. “It is a highly addictive man-made opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin. Just two milligrams of fentanyl, the small amount that fits on the tip of a pencil, is considered a potentially deadly dose,” it…

Boris Becker reveals grim reality of prison life after “brutal” jail transfer

Tennis icon Boris Becker has revealed the grim reality of life in prison after he had been sentenced to two-and-a-half-years in jail earlier this year. The six-time Grand Slam winner was released last week, having served just eight months in prison, and deported back to Germany as part of a ‘fast track’ scheme to reduce the demand on British jails. The 55-year-old revealed his “brutal” move to prison life during an interview with German television station Sat TV tonight. After being shown a picture of a solitary prison cell, Becker said: “It’s never that clean.” There was a small television in Becker’s prison cell. He added: “That was very important. Somehow you have to survive the hours.” The only other thing in…

If they get permission, it means the Government could face months of legal battles, with no migrants deported until proceedings are resolved. Asked how many people the Government thinks it will send to Rwanda, Mr Sunak yesterday told the Liaison Committee of MPs: “We expect further legal challenge. We will continue to pursue that as necessary.” Dame Diana Johnson, chairwoman of the Home Affairs Select…

Rishi Sunak told to get ‘grip of crisis’ as homeless were removed from hotel for migrants

Rishi Sunak has been urged to “get a grip” of the migrant crisis after a Freedom of Information request revealed that eight homeless people were removed from temporary accommodation to make room for migrants. The FOI request was made by the TaxPayers’ Alliance in November 2022 to Crawley Borough Council. The request questioned how many homeless people were “evicted from accommodation within the council’s remit in order to make way for migrants and asylum seekers”. Crawley Borough Council responded to the request by saying: “Eight individuals were unable to remain in their temporary accommodation funded by the Council due to the hotel closing to public and corporate bookings and moving to an exclusive use contract for a Government client.” The council…

Pakistan: Hostage situation ends in Peshawar, several freed from counter-terrorism centre

After an over 40-hour-long standoff, Pakistan Army’s special forces managed to free several hostages from local Taliban militants in Peshawar in Pakistan’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday. The development came after Pakistani security forces launched an operation to reach out to those captured at a highly fortified counter-terrorism centre in the city.  On Sunday last week, militants of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), detained at the counter-terrorism centre inside the Bannu Cantonment, freed themselves and took hostages at the centre. They overpowered guards and snatched police weapons, evolving the situation into a standoff.  The Pakistani Taliban are a separate group but also allied with the Afghan Taliban, who seized power in the neighboring country last year as the US and Nato troops were in the final…

Kevin Pietersen says every World Cup should be in the Middle East after Wembley’s “disgrace”

Legendary England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has suggested “every football tournament should be in the Middle East” after he attended the Qatar World Cup. Pietersen took to Instagram to post a clip of fans outside one of Qatar’s stadiums after the tournament ended with Argentina lifting the trophy, having beaten France on penalties in what was perhaps the greatest-ever World Cup final. However, Qatar’s tournament hosting has been controversial due to the country’s poor human rights record, allegations of corruption, and the deaths of migrant workers who built the World Cup stadiums. Pietersen’s post contrasted the scenes in his clip with the chaos experienced at last year’s European Championship when thousands of ticketless fans gained entry to Wembley for the final between England and Italy, with an independent report later describing it as “an appalling scene…
