Farmers lock officials inside Rythu Vedika over urea shortage in Telangana’s Siddipet

Farmers in Siddipet’s Alwal village locked agriculture officials inside the Rythu Vedika after waiting for hours to buy urea fertiliser. Police intervened to secure their release, but shortages persisted, reflecting growing unrest across Medak district amid inadequate stocks

Siddipet: Farmers of Alwal village in Mirudoddi mandal on Saturday locked agriculture officials inside the Rythu Vedika, protesting against the shortage of urea.

The farmers, who had been waiting for hours to purchase fertiliser, grew agitated over the prolonged delay and shut the officials inside the premises. A large contingent of police rushed to the spot and persuaded the farmers to release them.

Following the incident, officials began distribution of fertiliser, but the stocks proved inadequate, leaving several farmers still waiting.

Protests over urea shortage have been intensifying across the erstwhile Medak district, with farmers forced to stand in long queues at agriculture offices, Rythu Vedikas, Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) centres and other fertiliser outlets.
