Hansika Motwani reveals ‘one call from me was all it took for Simbu to take up Maha’

Maha, Hansika Motwani’s 50th film, released in theatres on Friday, July 22, much to the delight of her die-hard fans. The Tamil movie has garnered a fair deal of attention as it features Kollywood star and the actress’ good friend Simbu in an “extended cameo”. Speaking exclusively to IndiaToday.in, Hansika said that STR agreed to allot dates for Maha almost immediately after she requested him to be part of what is a landmark release for her.

HANSIKA REVEALS HOW SIMBU CAME ON BOARD FOR MAHA

“Not a lot of people know this but all it took for Simbu to come aboard was one call from me. He is a dear friend and has an amazing presence. He has always had a charm,” said Hansika Motwani.

Maha, directed by U.R Jameel, is a thriller that features Hansika in the role of a mother and explores her character’s bond with her daughter. The actress revealed that she gave the nod to the movie as it was completely different from her previous releases.

HANSIKA ON MAHA BEING SPECIAL AS IT’S HER 50TH FILM

“Being the 50th film, this had to be different work to whatever I had done in the past. I had never done a female-centric movie before Maha, so it naturally fits. It has also been a while since I have done a thriller,” she said.

Maha, however, wasn’t an easy experience for Hansika Motwani as she had to adopt a different approach to play the role of a mother for the first time in her career.

“I usually don’t do a lot of homework as I am a spontaneous actress. Maha, however, was a bit different on this front as I needed to talk to people to understand the approach needed for playing a mother,” revealed Hansika.

HANSIKA ON PLAYING A ROBOT IN TAMIL REMAKE OF A KOREAN SERIES

Maha is Hansika’s first release since the Telugu-language courtroom action-comedy Tenali Ramakrishna BA. BL, which hit the screens in 2019. She is awaiting the release of MY3, the Tamil adaptation of the Korean series I’m Not a Robot, for Disney+ Hotstar.

The Trendloud-backed MY3 is directed by M Rajesh and marks his second collaboration with Hansika Motwani after the 2012 romantic comedy Oru Kal Oru Kannadi. Besides Hansika, MY3 features Mugen Rao, Shanthanu and Ashna Zaveri.

Hansika Motwani is awaiting the release of the crime-entertainer Partner, which features her as the leading lady opposite Aadhi. She also has My Name is Shruthi, a film about organ trade, in her kitty.
