Margot Robbie has added ‘rollerskate dance’ to her list of fitness talents

Margot Robbie’s new movie Barbie is basically all we’ve been talking about since it was announced, and she’s just got us even more excited in her interview with Vogue US.

In the chat, she opens up about everything from what compelled her to star in the film, to how she feels about Barbie being sexy (‘She’s a plastic doll. She doesn’t have organs. If she doesn’t have organs, she doesn’t have reproductive organs. If she doesn’t have reproductive organs, would she even feel sexual desire? No, I don’t think she could’), but something else that caught our attention was what she’s been doing to keep fit these days.

You may have seen the BTS pics of Margot and co-star Ryan Gosling (who takes on the role of Ken) rollerblading on LA’s Venice boardwalk. Well, apparently Margs likes to rollerblade in her own time, too.

According to Vogue, Margot asked for the interview to be done while rollerblading, and even owns two pairs of blades – one of which she ‘took the brakes off because I hate to brake.’ Scroll through the Vogue snaps below until you get to her rocking some floral print rollerblades (and undies) and you’ll see she is clearly very good at it; can anyone else pose like that when rollerblading? Neither

She learnt to rollerblade while filming for I, Tonya, which is why she doesn’t like brakes. ‘I never had them on ice skates, so it would mess me up,’ she explains to Vogue.

One of the ‘background extras’ on Babylon who is a ‘really cool Instagram skater’ has since taught her skate-dancing. ‘We were talking about skating. I was like, “Do you want to go on the weekend and teach me some tricks?” And she was like, “Yeah, sure.” So we went and she was kind of teaching me how to dance on my skates,’ she says.

If you’re wondering what skating could do for you, research conducted at the Universitat Konstantx showed that moderate roller skating could increase your heartbeat to 140-160 beats per minute. Pick up the pace and you’ll likely top 180 beats per minute. In turn, this’ll strengthen your heart health and improve blood circulation. What’s more, according to a study by the University of Massachusetts, roller skating causes less than 50% of the impact shock to your joints than running does, making it a solid low-impact cardio workout.

Margot also gives some insight into her nutrition habits. She met Vogue over breakfast, where she ordered avocado toast, grilled halloumi cheese and Australian-style bacon, for which she requested the waiter to ‘crisp it up’. Post-rollerblading, they then headed to her favourite ice cream shop, Salt & Straw. What a day.

As for cooking, it’s not for Margs. ‘In our friendship group in LA and London, all the guys cook, and love cooking, and are really good at it,’ she says. ‘And none of the girls cook, and we love drinking, and we’re really good at it.’ And when she does give it a go? ‘Everything lights on fire in the kitchen. I’m not even kidding.’ We’ve all been there.
