Michelle Bolsonaro denies that her husband is extending his stay in the U.S. for fear of reprisals

Michelle Bolsonaro has denied that her husband, former president Jair Bolsonaro, has not returned to Brazil as she has for fear of possible measures against him for the coup attacks of January 8 and has assured that “he is not the one who has to be afraid of being arrested”.

The former first lady of Brazil went to the Brazilian Congress on Wednesday to attend the inauguration of the deputies and senators who support Bolsonaro, of whom she said that she is in the United States “resting”, after learning that she has requested a six-month visa to remain in that country.

Michelle returned alone to Brazil last week, while there was speculation about the return or not of a Bolsonaro who days ago assured that he would bring forward his return to the country to be treated for abdominal pains he suffered while in the United States, an ailment he has been dragging since he was stabbed in 2018.

However, a few days ago it was announced his intentions to remain in the United States at least for the next few months, in which he has promised to continue doing politics, but from a distance. Meanwhile, investigations continue for the coup attacks and it is not ruled out that he could be legally implicated, which would frustrate his candidacy for the 2026 elections.

Precisely, the figure of Michelle seems to have gained more relevance within the Liberal Party (PL), after the wear that Bolsonaro is suffering due to what happened in the Esplanade of the Ministries, and the president of the acronym, Valdemar Costa Neto, has already speculated with the possibility that she could be a candidate for the Planalto Palace in 2026.

Some theories that have awakened the “jealousy” of a Bolsonaro who has already made Costa Neto aware of the feeling of “discredit” that these theories would have caused in him, according to sources of the PL consulted by the newspaper ‘O Globo’
