Hyderabad: Relatives of a 48-year-old priest, Bhuvanagiri Laxmi Narayana from Madhapuram, Khammam, who was declared brain dead by attending doctors, have donated his organs to needy patients as part of Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
On June 16, the priest was injured when a tree fell on the auto-rickshaw in which he was travelling at Kattakoor. The family members of the priest admitted him to a local hospital in Khammam and later shifted him to a private hospital in Hyderabad.
Following emergency treatment in the ICU and with no improvement in the patient’s health, he was declared brain dead on June 21. The sister of the brain-dead priest, B Durga Devi, made the decision to donate his kidneys, liver and heart to four needy patients. A total of 4 organs, including 2 kidneys, the heart and the liver, were retrieved and allocated to needy patients.
