PM Modi congratulates Lovlina Borgohain as she wins gold at World Boxing Championships: She showed great skill

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Lovlina Borgohain after she won the gold medal at the Women’s World Boxing Championship, saying she showed great skill. Lovlina beat Australia’s Caitlin Parker via a split decision in the 75kg category to win gold at the KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.

Taking to social media, PM Modi congratulated Lovlina for her stupendous feat, while adding that she showed great skill in her win over Parker. Lovlina was involved in a fiercely-fought final against Parker, and won the gold medal via a split decision.

“Congratulations @LovlinaBorgohai for her stupendous feat at the Boxing World Championships. She showed great skill. India is delighted by her winning the Gold medal,” Modi posted on his Twitter handle.

Lovlina confirmed India’s 4th medal at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi and all of them turned out to be gold. Earlier on Sunday, Nikhat Zareen won her second World Championships gold medal, dominating the 50kg final. Nitu Ghanghas (48kg) and Saweety Boora had won the gold medals in their respective weight categories on Saturday in New Delhi.

The Prime Minister also hailed Nikhat Zareen, who beat Thi Tham Nguyen of Vietnam to win her second Women’s World Boxing Championships Gold medal. The 26-year-old defeated Nguyen in the 50kg final via a unanimous decision (5-0) to defend her World Championship title.

“Congratulations to @nikhat_zareen for her spectacular victory at the World Boxing Championships and winning a Gold. She is an outstanding champion whose success has made India proud on many occasions,” Modi posted on Twitter.

Nikhat has become only the 2nd Indian female boxer after Mary Kom to win multiple gold medals at the IBA Women’s World Championships. Mary, who won the Olympics Bronze in London, scripted history by winning 6 World Championships gold medals with her last coming in New Delhi in 2018.
