Nishant Dev misses out on Paris Olympics quota, loses by split decision in QF

Nishant Dev missed out on a Paris Olympic quota by a whisker, suffering a heartbreaking loss in the 71kg quarterfinals as all Indian boxers returned empty-handed from the first World Olympic Boxing Qualifier here. Dev went down 1-4 to USA’s Omari Jones, the 2021 World Championship silver medallist, in a closely-contested light middleweight quarterfinal late on Monday. A win in the last eight stage would have fetched the 2023 World Championships bronze medallist an Olympic quota. None of the nine boxers competing here were able to add to India’s tally of four quotas in boxing. After two qualification events — the Asian Games and the first World Olympic Boxing Qualifier — not one Indian male pugilist has been able to book a place for the Olympics. All four quotas in boxing have come in the women’s section with two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg), Parveen Hooda (57kg), and Tokyo Olympics bronze…

Instead of opting for a much-needed break between the IPL and the 5-match Test series against England, the Indian skipper came to support the players. Rohit, who represents Mumbai, would be happy with the team’s performance. His teammates, Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer, scored 73 and 95 each. 19-year-old Musheer Khan stood out with the bat with his 136-run knock as Mumbai were on course to set a massive…

Now it’s kind of shifted on, I feel like it’ll be a split decision going either guy’s way,” Shields told Sky Sports. “I say that because it feels like AJ has a lot to prove and I feel like when he’s got a lot to prove sometimes he puts too much pressure on himself and he doesn’t fight his fight. Scientists have calculated Usain Bolt’s potential 100m world record if he didn’t celebrate early

Usain Bolt is one of the ultimate Olympians of all time, with many deeming the Jamaican sprinter as the greatest athlete to ever perform at the greatest show on earth. When you consider just how much better he was than his opposition, it’s hard to argue against that. Back in 2008, he won the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics, and although it wasn’t a world record time, the performance from Bolt showed why he is just different gravy and how far ahead of his competitors he was. He jogged over the finish line, slowing down well before the 100m mark, but he still posted a truly stupid time of 9.69 seconds. Plenty will try and fail to reach that in their career,…
