Telangana HC rules remission is not an indefeasible right of convicts

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court held on Saturday that remission is not an indefeasible right of convicts, and they cannot seek premature release on the sole ground that they have completed 18 years of sentence and 24 years of sentence including remission. A division bench comprising Justice Annireddy Abhishek Reddy and Justice G. Anupama Chakravarthy gave the order on a petition filed by a woman stating that her father Sk. Zakaria, who was convicted to life imprisonment for murdering a government servant, M.A. Khadeer, deputy secretary of the then AP Wakf Board, in 2003. Cyber fraudsters now targeting power consumers on pretext of clearing pending bills

Hyderabad: After siphoning off money from through various modus operandi, cyber fraudsters have now turned their attention to power bills. Recent cases in the city show that fraudsters are contacting customers posing as employees of the Electricity Board and duping them on the pretext of clearing pending bills or face power cut. According to cybercrime officials, the fraudster initially sends a message through SMS or WhatsApp to the mobile phone of the targeted person. When the latter responds, they introduce themselves as employees of the local Electricity Board and inform that the customer has not paid electricity bills and that power supply will be disconnected later in the day or that night. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the Vande Bharat Express train connecting Secunderabad with Visakhapatnam on Sunday at 10:30 AM via video conferencing, an official statement from the PMO said on Friday. This will be the eighth Vande Bharat Express train introduced by Indian Railways. It will be the first one connecting the Telugu-speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, covering a distance of around 700 km, added the statement. The train will have stoppages at Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry and Vijayawada stations in Andhra Pradesh and at Khammam, Warangal and Secunderabad stations in Telangana.
