At 5pm on September 17, 1948, Mir Osman Ali Khan, the last Nizam of the state of Hyderabad, issued a “farman” (royal decree) over All India Radio, expressing his desire to “open a new chapter of friendliness” with the Indian dominion, with his people living in “integrated harmony” with the people of India. This message of surrender came after four days of war between the Indian military forces and the Razakars, the private army of the Nizam led by MIM leader Kasim Razvi, culminating the process of accession of the princely state and its merger into India, a little over a year after the country won its Independence. Telangana govt will complete recruitment of 2140 doctors in primary health care facilities
Hyderabad: In measures aimed at ensuring availability of quality health care and teaching faculty in government hospitals, the Telangana government in the coming weeks will complete recruitment of 2140 doctors in primary health care facilities and Government specialty teaching hospitals. In the next ten-days, the Telangana health wing will complete recruitment of 1000 doctors in Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and will also release notification to fill-up 1140 Assistant Professors posts to be filled in all the teaching hospitals. Hyderabad Metro to extend services till 12.30 am on Ind-Aus match day
Hyderabad: With the city gearing up for the T20 match between India and Australia, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has announced extended rail service which will run till 12.30 am on the day of the match on Sunday. The frequency of trains to and from the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal is also expected to increase on need basis on the day.

Hyderabad: Surgeons from Yashoda remove large tumour in a 69-year-old woman
Hyderabad: Surgeons at Yashoda Hospitals on Thursday announced that they have successfully operated on a 69 year-old-woman who had a big tumour in the right side of her chest and was suffering from progressive difficulty in breathing for the last one year, a press release said. The woman underwent a series of tests, which revealed that she had rare tumour arising from the lining of the chest wall. The tumour was pushing the heart to the opposite side, compressing the right lung and the diaphragm and causing significant chest pain and fluid accumulation in her right chest, doctors said. Hyderabad: Nearly 20 persons were injured, including seven who had to be rushed to hospital, after a stampede-like situation broke out at Gymkhana Grounds on Thursday during the sale of tickets for Sunday’s third India-Australia T20 match. Amid widespread criticism that the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has bungled up the ticket sale, leading to chaos, the State government said it would taken stern action in case of irregularities. Hyderabad: Azharuddin, members of HCA booked after stampede
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Cricket Association’s president Mohammad Azharuddin and other members of the HCA have been booked by the city police following a stampede at Gymkhanna grounds. IIIH Hyderabad’s pilot study on bus drivers finds AI improves safe driving behaviour
New Delhi: Artificial Intelligence-based solutions improve safe driving behaviour, according to a pilot study by the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad and Central Road Research Institute. During the study, an AI-based Collision Avoidance Systems (CAS) installed on a fleet of buses in Nagpur showed marked reduction in safety alerts received, fostering better driving practices. “In the initial period, 50 Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Aapli buses were selected for installing AI-based Collision Avoidance Systems (CAS) devices to study their effectiveness in improving the safety of public transport buses,” said a senior official of IIIT Hyderabad. “The study involved bus drivers with varied driving experiences. Hyderabad Traffic cops get cracking against road encroachments
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad traffic police are now booking criminal cases against business establishments encroaching the roads and pavements, for trespassing and wrongful confinement. The traffic police started a special drive to clear encroachments from the roads in the city for causing inconvenience to the traffic and pedestrians. The drive was initiated after the officials noticed traffic slowdowns as pedestrians were forced to use the roads while business establishments used the pavements to display their goods. “So far, six cases have been booked against such establishments at different police stations.
